The Savannah Convention Center is an economic pillar in Coastal Georgia, supporting tens of thousands of jobs and boosting re-investment in the surrounding area. But a lesser-known story is the community’s support of the Convention Center—a connection that will grow with the expansion of the riverfront venue.

An Economic Impact Strengthening the Community's Future

In two decades, the state-of-the-art facility along the Savannah River has been a Southern gem for countless meetings and conventions, creating a $1.4 billion impact in Georgia. The Savannah Convention Center expansion will increasingly drive growth.

The expansion, which doubles the Center’s size to 660,000 square feet, also comes with unique, modern features to enchant a wider variety of meetings and larger groups. The more than $270 million expansion project is an investment in Savannah’s community, as it means more meeting attendees, shoppers, diners, customers and jobs for Georgians. By building for the future, the city steeped in history fosters opportunity and prosperity for generations to come.

The Savannah Convention Center Expansion Project's Economic Effect

  • Hiring more than 30 Georgia-based companies
  • Supporting more than 3,200 jobs in Georgia
  • Generating more than $490 million in economic impact
  • Creating 500 direct construction site jobs
  • Spurring the growth of new businesses
Local Art Adorning

Savannah is known for its art and period architecture, and the city’s architecturally stunning Convention Center has long displayed pieces by local artists. The artwork that dazzles the world-class venue includes works by students from the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), which occupies a majority of the charming Historic Landmark District. The art gallery feel of the Convention Center will continue to mesmerize attendees after the expansion.

A Convention Center for the Community

The Savannah Convention Center and the community have always been intertwined, and the historic expansion will only strengthen that bond. It’s easy for the Convention Center to host local groups, and the venue has hosted troves of community events and banquets since it first opened in 2000.

And many people who live in the Savannah area work at the complex. In fact, the Convention Center has an in-house food and beverage department, which is known for its award-winning culinary team, its food quality and presentation, and its Southern hospitality.

"We get local participation all the time...and they love coming up to the Convention Center." - Angela Daniels, Director of Sales, Marketing & Event Services for the Savannah Convention Center
