Salvation Army is holding a Christmas campaign kick-off event featuring Christmas carolers, elf appearances, an eatery serving food, kid-friendly activities such as arts and crafts, and a European-like Christmas market with artisan local vendors. As the evening commences, Major Paul Egan will arrive on a train holding the Golden Kettle, the beacon for the start of this important campaign. To further celebrate the beginning of their Red Kettle season, The Salvation Army is attempting to set the record for most bells rang at one time by a crowd of individuals. The more people in attendance, the greater the record will be! Additionally, attendees will enjoy the ceremony of the lighting of the towering 126 foot tall brick smokestack. Bathed in Salvation Army's festive red lighting, the stack will remain lit throughout the campaign and will be visible throughout the city of Savannah.
