Title: Communications Coordinator      

 

Reports to: Director of Public Relations

 

Overview of Position: 

 

This position is primarily responsible for the creation and distribution of assisting in the development of the written public relations content for Visit Savannah and the Savannah Area Chamber of Commerce, as well as all other associated brands. Along with the digital content team, this position provides communications support for all brands of the organization.

 

Duties/Responsibilities

 

Visit Savannah Responsibilities:

 

  1. Write and copy edit, or assist with, marketing and public relations copy, messaging and publications for Visit Savannah and the Savannah Sports Council; including brochures, website copy, editorial copy, press releases, news articles, annual reports, business plans, and other written messages for internal and external use.
  2. Support public relations efforts by creating pitches to all facets of domestic and international travel, trade and meetings-focused media and maintaining the journalist and media database in CRM.
  3. Create and curate content for the @VisitSavannahPR Twitter account in effort to interact with journalists and generate earned media opportunities.
  4. Assist PR director in the creation and execution of locally-hosted media events and individual destination visits.
  5. Assist PR director in the planning and implementation of media missions throughout the year.
  6. Support the digital content team on managing digital influencers and other non-traditional media by vetting, assisting with contract negations, itinerary planning and trip hosting.
  7. Support the digital content team as needed with creating and editing editorial content for VisitSavannah.com
  8. Assist Visit Savannah events as required.
  9. Act as department CRM manager. Collect and archive coverage of destination in CRM and other necessary locations, as well as collect and archive accolades and awards in list format. Maintain destination accolades page at VisitSavannah.com.
  10. Maintain photographs on Board of Directors wall.
  11. Support PR director in acting as local media liaison.
  12. Provide support for VP of communications as needed.
  13. Provide communications support for president of Visit Savannah.

 

Savannah Area Chamber Responsibilities:

  1. Collect, write, edit and organize articles for SavannahChamberNews.com.
  2. Produce and send weekly Chamber e-newsletter.
  3. Write and copy edit marketing and public relations copy, messaging and publications for the Chamber; including brochures, online and printed calendars of events, website copy, editorial copy, press releases, news articles, annual reports, business plans, and other written messages for internal and external use.
  4. Maintain photographs on Board of Directors wall.
  5. Assist at events as required.
  6. Provide communications support for CEO of Savannah Area Chamber.

 

Supervisory Responsibility:  N/A

 

Education and Experience/Key Competencies

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in English, journalism or communications/public relations
  • At least 1-2 years of experience in journalism, public relations or marketing preferred
  • Excellent writing/editing and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills to direct work, work proactively, drive engagement, and effectively collaborate
  • Experience integrating multimedia, social media and online media strategies
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and digital photography
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task to meet deadlines
  • Flexible working hours, to include some nights and weekends
  • Some travel may be required
  • Must be flexible and be able to adjust to changing conditions, circumstances and priorities
  • Must demonstrate a positive attitude and cooperate with staff

 

Work Environment

 

Working conditions are normal for an office environment. Work may require occasional weekend and/or evening hours. This position requires occasional domestic travel.  Reasonable accommodations may be limited to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
