Visit Tybee Communications Coordinator


Position: Communications Coordinator for Tybee Island

Overview of the position:  
This position is responsible for the ongoing public relations efforts including writing and revising press releases, weekly pitching, updating the Visit Tybee website, media relations, copy writing, editing and other various projects. 


  • Write, revise and send out press releases to local and national media
  • Research and prepare media pitches
  • Monitor media for Visit Tybee/Tybee Island and produce monthly report of coverage using Cision media monitors
  • Prepare and mail out media kits per request to media representatives
  • Manage and maintain media contact database
  • Write articles for local publications (Do Savannah, etc.) and weekly Chamber e-newsletter
  • Vet, organize and host travel writers/media familiarization tours
  • Establish and maintain media relationships and respond to media requests
  • Assist with marketing efforts including writing copy for various publications, ads, etc.
  • Write and edit copy for the Visit Tybee website
  • Maintain calendar of events and specials on Visit Tybee website
  • Work in partnership with Visit Savannah PR Department where applicable
  • Provide support to team members as needed

Minimum requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Public Relations, Marketing or related field
  • 1-2 years professional work experience in a marketing or public relations role
  • Strong writing skills required
  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills
  • Organized, detail oriented and proactive
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, team environment with limited supervision
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office, Wordpress and Cision
  • Photoshop and HTML knowledge is a plus
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Flexible working hours to include some nights and weekends
