Tybee Island Wedding Guide
Dreaming of tying the knot with sand in your toes and waves kissing the shore behind you? Just 17 miles from Savannah, nestled behind salt marshes and shrimp-boat lined tidal creeks, Tybee Island is an idyllic beach community from a bygone time. Here, weddings come as easy as the tides and honeymoons begin the moment you say “I do.”
If you’ve got your heart set on an easy, breezy beach wedding, there’s no better venue than Tybee Island. The beaches here are public, and you don’t need a special permit for simple ceremonies: simply pick a spot, kick off your shoes and take the plunge. For larger groups and beach setups, a $25 permit must be obtained in advance from the Facilities Manager of the City of Tybee (or an approved wedding planner). Tybee Island's Wedding Guidelines are basic and easy to follow. Be sure to make them a part of your plan.
Tybee Wedding Chapel
This stunning replica of a turn-of-the-century seaside chapel is right out of a storybook. The curving double staircase leads to the main sanctuary, with wide-plank wood floors, antique pews and exposed beams. Downstairs is a glitzy 2,800-square-foot grand ballroom for receptions. There’s also a cocktail lounge, bride’s and groom’s quarters and manicured grounds, all set within a peaceful tidal forest.
Hotels & Inns
Tybee’s quaint inns, cottages and vacation rentals are a great option for hosting your wedding. Beachview Bed & Breakfast, on Tybee’s quiet south end, offers an onsite wedding pavilion, while Tybee Island Inn near North Beach has a gazebo surrounded by lush, semi-tropical gardens.
Restaurants & Caterers
Tiny Tybee has a handful of refined-casual restaurants and bars that can host your wedding reception or rehearsal dinner, like Tybee Island Social Club and The Deck. The Crab Shack, located near the entrance onto the island, hosts private parties and groups with a no-frills menu of seafood favorites like Lowcountry boil.
You can also enlist the culinary expertise of our on-island caterers. Run by a longtime movie-industry caterer, Gerald’s Pig & Shrimp specializes in barbecue, whole-pig roasts and oyster roasts. Locals love North Beach Bar & Grill, which caters seafood and comfort food with a Caribbean flair.
If you’d rather kick back and let the pros handle the details, contact one of Tybee Island’s experienced wedding planners.
